An election was held in Frindsbury Extra and Chattenden ward on 1 May 1997 to elect two councillors.

It was the first election to be held in the ward following the creation of Medway council. the Conservatives won both of the new seats.

Tom Mason and Richard Andrews were elected as councillors for the ward.
