Declare Land at Compass Close and The Tideway Surplus (Amendment)

23 October 2003

Motion

Members considered the following cabinet proposal to declare land surplus at Compass Close and the Tideway, Rochester:

That council declares site A, at Compass Close and 98 and 100 The Tideway, Rochester as surplus to enable the director of finance and corporate services to use delegated powers to dispose of them at best consideration and that:

  • further discussions take place with the interested party as set out in paragraph 3.7 of the exempt report with regard to the proposed usage of the land again subject to best consideration; and
  • no part of site B, known as Copperfield Open Space, is to be declared surplus.

Amendment

Councillor Murray, supported by Councillor Griffiths, moved an amendment to delete the proposal and replace it with:

That council:

  • retains the open space at Compass Close and The Tideway and in consultation with local residents explore the creation of a "pocket park" on this site; and
  • support the creation of a neighbourhood group that could apply for funding from the government's £30 million Living Spaces scheme, which offers grants of between £1,000 and £100,000 to help people create valuable green spaces that the whole community can enjoy.

On being put to the vote, the amendment was lost.
