An election was held in Town ward on 3 May 1979 to elect three councillors.

It was the first election to be held in the ward following a boundary review. the Conservatives won two of the new seats and Labour won the remaining new seat.

Ms. E. Cox, B. Lyons and Ms. M. Christopher were elected as councillors for the ward.
