An election was held in St Margaret's and Borstal ward on 5 May 1983 to elect three councillors.
Prior to the election, independent councillors held two of the seats and the Conservatives held the other seat. Following the election, the Conservatives held one of the seats and gained a second seat from an independent councillor, while an independent candidate held the reamining seat.
Peggy Saxby, Chris Nickless and Chris Buckwell were elected as councillors for the ward.
