Medway Council Election
7 May 2015
A full election to Medway council was held on 7 May 2019.
A total of 202 candidates stood for seven parties, while a further four candidates stood as independents.
For the third election in a row, the Conservatives saw the size of their group increase, with a net gain of two seats. The party retained overall control of the council with 36 councillors.
Labour gained four seats and lost four seats, leaving them with 15 councillors. However, they still retained their status as the official opposition on the council.
The Liberal Democrats saw their last three councillors lose their seats, leaving them with no councillors in Medway for the first time since the party was formed in 1988.
Ukip replaced the Liberal Democrats as the third party on the council after gaining three seats. However, one of their newly-elected councillors, Mark Joy, resigned his membership of the party one week after taking his seat, deciding to instead sit as an independent and leaving Ukip with three councillors.
