Council: Make Arrangements to Enable Registration of Civil Partnerships

Motion

Councillor Buckwell, supported by the portfolio holder for adult services, Councillor Mason, submitted the following:

When the Civil Partnership Act 2004 comes into force on 5 December 2005 it will require the registration of civil partnerships by the council.

Council therefore recommends that cabinet, at its meeting on 8 November 2005:

  1. makes the necessary arrangements to enable the registration of civil partnerships to fulfil the council's legal obligations; and
  2. recommends that these arrangements include the provision of ceremonies, on approved council premises, and the setting of fees and charges for ceremonies.

He further requested that a separate vote be taken for sections (1) and (2) of the motion and a recorded vote on element (2) of the motion was requested.

On being put to the vote, the motion was carried.
